NEW - Auditions 

Brass and Woodwind Auditions

  • Audition materials for all woodwinds and brasses can be found here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1U9ZgtOU7tu6Z3HgabRsrmS-eqJVsPM3h?usp=drive_link

  • Students will audition on their CONCERT instrument - not their marching instrument

  • Incoming woodwinds, trumpets and trombones - Monday, April 15th starting at 4:30

  • Incoming horns, euphoniums and tubas - Tuesday, April 16th starting at 4:30 - FINISHED BY 5:30pm

  • Thursday, April 18th, make ups for any students who missed Monday or Tuesday

  • Returning HIGH SCHOOL students will audition during their band class time the week of Monday, April 15th

  • Audition results will be posted on Friday, April 19th

  • You’ll be placed in either JV or V marching band and preliminarily placed in one of the concert bands for the spring semester.  We will re-audition in December for spring semester concert placement

Wind Audition Procedures

  • Use the schedule to find your audition time.  Take note of which director you'll be auditioning for.  Auditions will take place in our offices in the band hall.

  • Arrive around 10 minutes prior to your scheduled time (if you audition between 4:30 and 4:40 you'll see some high school release traffic as you arrive)

  • Do a smart warm up

  • Several high school students will be on hand to help everyone find their place and keep the schedule running

  • Wait outside the office 1 person before your turn

  • When you come in, please let us know who you are

  • You may play several notes to hear what you sound like in the office

  • You may perform seated or standing, whichever you prefer

  • We will ask if you are ready to begin and then we will start the metronome at the marked tempo

  • You will play the LYRICAL and the TECHNICAL and then if you choose, the VARSITY etudes

  • You may play a test note before your begin the etude

  • Do your very best to play everything exactly as it appears on the page

  • We will switch the tempo on the metronome between etudes

  • We will record your audition

  • Directors are listening for Tone (25 pts), Tuning (15 pts), Articulation (15 pts), Correct and Steady Rhythm (15 pts), Correct Notes (15 pts) and Overall Musicianship (15 pts) for a total of 100 points.

Percussion Auditions

Mr. Roeder will be communicating with percussion students directly at the prep camps.  He will explain audition material and process.

  • Thursdays from 6:30-9:00pm at the RRHS Band Hall

ROCK DRUMS Pre Summer Camp - at the Round Rock High School Band Hall

  • Tuesday, May 28th - Friday, May 31st

  • 9:00am-4:00pm

  • Lunch on your own from Noon-1pm

Rock Guard and Dragon Fire Dance Company Auditions

Prep Camp & Auditions- starting in the band hall, moving to a gymnasium

  • Audition Prep - Monday and Tuesday April 22nd and 23rd

  • Auditions - Thursday, April 25th

  • 5:00-7:00pm

  • Start in the band hall and then move to a gym

Pre Summer Camp - at the Round Rock High School Band Hall/Gyms

  • Tuesday, May 28th - Friday, May 31st

  • 9:00am-4:00pm

  • Lunch on your own from Noon-1pm

NEW - Family Funding

  • Everyone will be taking care of Family Funding at their Everything Day time

  • We've got to break all of our fees into two parts - taxable and non taxable

  • All payments must be by cash or check (cashiers check is ok too)

REMINDER - EVERYTHING DAY *NEW - IN THE SPRING THIS YEAR*

Everything Day

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday April 29th, 30th and May 1st – All parents and students attend

Everything Day is what it sounds like - a day where all students and parents come here to school to take care of everything - paperwork mostly, payments, a section meeting and introductions to booster leadership, various fundraising projects and other pertinent information.

  • Attendance is required

  • Monday, April 29th - 6:00pm Flutes and Clarinets; 7:00pm Saxophones

  • Tuesday, April 30th - 6:00pm Low Brass; 7:00pm High Brass

REMINDER - Summer Band

Summer Band is mandatory, students must attend Summer Band, students must attend Summer Band

Summer Band is our time to make new friends and rejoin old friends, bond as a group, learn our marching shows, begin learning region music, and basically start the new year.  It is a four week program culminating in a parent performance.  Summer Band is held at the Round Rock High School Band Hall and in rooms around the campus - https://goo.gl/maps/25ozDz5U4c22

Leadership Days - ONLY DRAGON BAND STUDENT LEADERS ATTEND!

  • Wednesday, July 17th-Friday, July 19th

Summer Band Week 3

  • Monday, August 5th - Friday, August 9th

  • 8:00am-4:00pm *we'll stop at 3:30pm on Friday, August 9th so students have more time before Parent Preview that evening*

  • Lunch on your own from Noon-1pm

  • Varsity members (including Guard/Dance) also attend Tuesday/Thursday from 6:00-9:00pm

Parent Preview - All members attend

  • Friday, August 9th

  • Dragon Stadium (indoors in a gym if raining)

  • Section Photos 5:00-6:00pm

  • Warm Up 6:00-7:00pm

  • Performances begin at 7:00pm

What to bring/wear to Summer Band

  • Returning members bring Dragon Band water jug

  • New members will get a Dragon Band water jug (filled) on the first day of summer band

  • Instrument and music

  • Comfortable clothing in which you can easily move-No Jeans

  • Hat-advisable to avoid sunburn

  • Sunscreen

  • Athletic shoes-VERY IMPORTANT to avoid injury from long term stress-No Sandals, No Flip Flops, No Vans, No Boat Shoes, No shoes with poor support
