2.14.25

Hello Dragon Band Students, Parents and Families,

I’m writing from San Antonio at the TMEA Convention.  30,000 people take part each year and our 7 all state students are busy working in rehearsals now to perform for a packed concert hall on Saturday.  Take a look HERE to learn more.

Congratulations to our winter guards who competed last Saturday and did very well!  The JV guard were competitive in a more advanced classification and the Cadet and Varsity groups won their classifications!  Way to go!

YAC Format Change

  • We’ve chosen to move to a recital format for solos and ensembles instead of a competition

  • We’ll hold recitals for soloists and small ensembles later in the spring, likely in April or May

  • Recitals will take place at school over multiple evenings, scheduled according to band class

  • Parents and other students are encouraged to attend!

  • Students will not pay an entry fee or use an accompanist, nor will the event be judged

  • We’ll make recordings of the performances so we can review them later in class and ask students to evaluate their own performance

  • Although performing with an accompanist is a wonderful musical skill, students will perform without one for this event

  • All students will be asked to perform a short solo or an ensemble, even a duet is acceptable, and we will help students find material to perform

  • The goal is for all of our students to perform in some capacity and for the event to emphasize music making as a positive and joyful experience!
