BOA Grand Nationals Travel Meeting
Monday, February 3rd, 6:30pm
This trip is for all varsity members, or those wish to travel with the group in any capacity - you must attend
A representative from Music Travel Consultants will be here to present travel plans for the band’s trip to Indianapolis, Indiana in November of 2025 for the BOA Grand Nationals competition
We will play a promo video for the 2025 varsity show

If you have not already done so, please take a minute now to complete this form!
We build our roster for next year starting with a google form that we ask all of our 9th, 10th and 11th graders to complete and we send this to our feeder middle school campuses and 8th grade band students fill it out there.
Dragon Band students in 9th, 10th and 11th grade - all instruments and all sections, please take several minutes to complete this form. Pay careful attention to entering email addresses and read each question before answering

Mulch
We’ve started mulch sales and will finish selling on Monday, February 3rd
We’re asking each student to try and sell 100 bags of mulch
Cost per bag is $5.00 and we make about $2.50 per bag
We offer brown mulch and black mulch
The minimum order is 5 bags
Cash or checks are accepted, made out to RRHS Band
Students must complete the order form LEGIBLY AND ACCURATELY
Turn in order forms weekly on Mondays
Students must give their customers a receipt
Students should sell mulch inside our sales boundary, this is to aid in delivery
Students who sell outside that boundary should plan on delivering that customers order to them on Friday, March 7th
Customers may elect to pick up their own mulch on Friday, March 7th at 4:30pm
We will deliver to customers on Saturday, March 8th, all day - more info about delivery day later

Arrival Time to Pflugerville HS
We are asking that students not arrive until after 9 AM. Traffic prior to 9 AM is very busy as we begin school at 9 AM
Parking for Friday
Students will need to park in the parking lot closest to PfISD Administration (near the campus stadium). Reference the map for details
All parking will be available on Saturday
Parking
All visitors will need to display the parking pass on their dashboard in order to not be ticketed or towed. Place this notice so that it can be easily viewed by the parking lot police
Entering the School
Students must enter through door #11 near the entrance of the band hall. Reference the aerial view map for details. Students should make sure to give themselves time to park and walk around the school to the band hall doors (at least 15 minutes). They will not be permitted to enter the school at any other entrance
Lunch
The PHS cafeteria will be available for students to eat from 1 - 2pm. Students will need to walk around the school to enter the cafeteria doors. Students will not be allowed to leave the cafeteria unless leaving the campus. Students will not be able to go back and forth from the cafeteria to the band hall. A director must be present the entire time during lunch!
Personal Items
Please advise students to be mindful of their belongings. Students are responsible for their personal items. DO NOT LEAVE VALUABLES UNATTENDED!

Event Schedule and Categories
The Houston Underground Competition is scheduled for Saturday, May 17th, 2025, at Kerr High School in Houston, TX (8150 Howell Sugar Land Rd, 77083)
The competition will commence at 8:30 AM and conclude with the final performance at 5:30 PM.
This will be followed by the 2024 Winners Concert at 6 PM and a brief period for judges’ deliberation
The awards ceremony will take place immediately after the concert, around 6:30 PM
The competition is divided into three categories:
High School Quartet (2 rounds): This category is for saxophone groups with 3-6 participants
High School Soloist (2 rounds): This category is for solo saxophone and piano (when applicable)
Junior High Quartet (one round): This category is for saxophone groups with 3-6 participants in junior high
Opportunities for Small Ensembles and Chamber Groups
Please let me know if your group might be interested in performing and I will help coordinate with AGE
We're AGE of Central TX, a day-site for people with dementia and we're close-by. (Across from the park on Round Rock West Drive.)
We love it when young people (and educators) come and show their talents
If an ensemble has something they're working on or even a student or two wants to practice in front of a group, we would gladly welcome this
If you’re going into art therapy or music therapy you may sit in on arts and crafts or music with us sometime

Silver Thistle Pipes and Drums is recruiting interested drummers and bagpipers!
Lessons are available for a fee if you are brand new to your chosen instrument.
Silver Thistle is a non-profit organization which brings Scottish piping and drumming to the central Texas area
Silver Thistle was formed in 1977 and provides bagpipes and drumming lessons for people of all ages
Silver Thistle has been participating in pipe band competitions and performing in Texas and around the world for more than 45 years
We are dedicated to serving the greater Austin area through quality performances and education.
Under the leadership of Pipe Major Ken Liechti and Drum Sergeant Stephen Dick, our corps consists of many pipers and drummers who learned to play through our band’s own lesson system
We are a global community with members from Scotland, South Africa, and Canada, as well as our homegrown musicians. We are proud to represent Texas both locally and abroad.
Rehearsals are 6:30-8:30 on Monday nights at Austin Playhouse.
Lessons are on Mondays from 8:00-9:00.

Woodwinds! - Registration deadline is today, January 24th!
UMHB is hosting a Woodwind Day open to all students grade 8-12
Saturday, February 1st, 10am-5pm, cost is $10.00
Attendees are invited to bring their instruments and participate in music-making and learning throughout the day, including chamber ensembles, masterclasses, and a final concert where participants will premiere a new composition for woodwind choir by Dr. Dylan Pich
Lunch will be provided
The registration deadline is January 24
A schedule of events with music to be prepared will be emailed after registration is received.

Grades
Students must remain academically eligible to participate in football games and marching contest performances and all TMEA activities. Should a student become ineligible they will still practice with the group during band class and in some cases, outside of the school day.
There are two types of official grade reporting - IPR (Interim Progress Report) and Report Card. We are required to go by these official methods to determine eligibility.
The main thing to remember is - ALL STUDENTS - PASS YOUR CLASSES TO REMAIN ELIGIBLE
Attendance
Look ahead at the rehearsal and event schedule and plan your appointments and tutorial help around it

Attendance at rehearsals and events is mandatory unless otherwise specified
Absences due to sickness are excused with notification from a parent if the student has a fever, is vomiting or cannot otherwise get out of bed
Absences due to prolonged sickness/injury are excused with a doctor's note
