Hello Dragon Band Students, Parents and Families,

It was a short week at school for the directors as we’re now in San Antonio for the TMEA All State Clinic and Convention. Our 8 all state students are busy in rehearsals preparing for their concerts on Saturday! To learn more about TMEA and the Convention go here.

Winter Concert, Monday, February 12th

6:30pm, RRISD Hartfield PAC (by McNeil)

• Concert Band

  • Arrive by 6:00pm, store cases in the black box

  • Warm on stage at 6:10pm

  • Begin the concert at 6:30pm

  • After performing, move to the audience to sit together and watch the other bands

• Symphonic Band

  • Arrive by 6:10pm, store cases in the black box

  • Warm in the Green Room at 6:25pm

  • Perform after Concert Band at approximately 6:55pm

  • After performing, move to the audience to sit together and watch the other bands

• Wind Symphony

  • Arrive by 6:20pm, store cases in the black box

  • Sit together in the audience and watch Concert Band perform, then move to warm up

  • Warm in the Green Room at approximately 6:55pm

  • Perform after Symphonic Band at approximately 7:25pm

  • After performing, move to the audience to sit together and watch Wind Ensemble

• Wind Ensemble

  • Arrive by 6:20pm, store cases in the black box

  • Sit together in the audience and watch Concert Band and Symphonic Band perform, then move to warm up

  • Warm in the Green Room at approximately 7:25pm

  • Perform after Wind Symphony at approximately 7:50pm

  • After performing, gather all your things and head home

Winter Guard News

• Congrats to the JV Guard who earned 2nd place this past weekend, and to Varsity who placed 8th

• Rock Guard Winter Showcase, Friday 2/9, 7:00pm, 100 Gym

• See our Cadet, JV, and Varsity guards perform their shows at the showcase, close to home

Mulch

• Mulch pick up on Friday, March 1st and then DELIVERY on Saturday, March 2nd.

• We will need lots and lots of student and parent help to delivery the mulch!

• Sign ups will be posted soon for both pick up and delivery times

Young Artists Competition

• We encourage ALL of our students to participate in this event as it greatly further their musical skills and development

• This is our own solo and ensemble contest and we have talked through the event in our classes

• Sign ups are now open and can be found here, the password is DB2324 since this is in the Members section of our website

• Prelims- Thursday, April 18th: Semifinals- Friday, May 3rd; Finals- Tuesday, May 14th

• The contest format allows for soloists AND small ensembles

Woodwind Day at UMHB

• Sunday, February 25 from 1-6 pm in Belton, TX - Open to clarinet, saxophone, and flute players

• Students will have the opportunity to play in a large flute, clarinet, or saxophone choir (all attendees participating, all ages and abilities!)

• There is also a masterclass for each instrument - if students are interested in participating in this, email hcjanysek@gmail.com.

• 30 campers at the Balcones Country Club in Austin, TX for ages 5-11.

• Camp will run Tuesday-Friday from June 4 - August 2.  (The times overlap with summer band and London but they’ve said you could still apply if you’re interested)
